Building a gunite pool
Gunite – a blend of sand and cement – is well-known as the premier material for in-ground pools. Its malleability allows you to make any type of swimming pool shape imaginable.
- Process
The process for building a gunite pool is all done on the site. The pool site must first be dug out, and then builders put in a reinforced steel framing. Afterward, they blast gunite through a powerful nozzle, which hardens and forms the pool structure.
- Customization
Gunite is very adjustable, so it can be used to build anything from a conventional pool to an all-natural freeform pool.
- Durability
In spite of inconsistent maintenance, a gunite in-ground pool can last for a substantial amount of time without needing too much renovation or repair – making it the most reliable of all three types of in-ground pools.
- Surface Finish
Plus, there is a selection of possible internal finish choices ranging from river pebble aggregates to epoxy paint finishes with the inclusion of glass tiles, to give the water an ocean blue or a turquoise glassy hue.
- Visual Appeal
Gunite pools provide an array of possibilities for building a gunite pool, from curved and intricate shapes to flowy, tropical, or Zen Garden-style landscapes.
- Maintenance
However, when looking at the upkeep and maintenance of the three pool types, gunite requires the most. Regular brushing and acid etching are necessary to prevent the buildup of algae, which is more time-consuming than vinyl and fiberglass.
- Initial Costs
Adding custom features may add to the upfront cost of building a gunite pool, but they are fully constructed on-site, helping to reduce delivery fees.
- Lifetime Costs
Gunite pools usually need to be resurfaced every 10 years, and any fixings of cracks or re-tiling could add to their lifetime expenses.
- Installation Time
Gunite pools building take the most amount of time to construct and can take between two to three months, based off of the size and highlights of the pool. Installing an L-shaped pool may take a short time than building a gunite pool with a spa addition or paved terrace.
