How to fix a hole in drywall in Toronto (of 1-3 cm size)

Such a hole in the drywall panel is easiest to fill with the starting plaster putty. It is applied in place of the break flush with the surface of the sheet and let dry. After drying, this place is protected, covered with a layer of finish putty and glued a piece of ” fabric ribbon” or gauze so that it covers the place of the hole with a reserve. On top of the ” fabric ribbon” is covered with a layer of finish putty and let dry. After such a “patch” dries, this place must be passed.

Sometimes, that the location of the  fabric ribbon does not rise above the plane of the sheet, before its application and puttying, in that place carefully remove the top layer of cardboard.

For such a hole can be used another way. Crumple a blank sheet of paper so that you get a kind of “cork”, which would be tightly entered into the hole and would not protrude beyond the plane of the sheet. On top of the paper “cork” and in place around the hole, as in the previous case, apply a finishing putty with ” fabric ribbon”. After drying, grind well.

How to fix a hole in drywall of 3-6 cm size

This hole is easy to fix with a “patch” cut out of a piece of drywall. It can be round or rectangular in shape. The easiest way to make a round hole. It can be made with a drill bit – a “crown” for drywall.

First, with the “crown” is cut a round hole in place of the hole, and then with the same crown is cut “patch” from a suitable size piece of drywall – it must be larger than the hole.

For the round patch, pre-cut out a rectangular piece of drywall, mark its position on it, and then with the help of the nozzle cut out so that only the bottom layer of cardboard and plaster is cut. The upper layer of cardboard should remain intact. With a hand tool, we clean it from the plaster outside the circle.

Apply a trowel to the ends of the holes and around it plaster putty and insert the prepared “patch” and press a layer of cardboard with a trowel.

From above we putty everything, let it dry and grind.

Thus you can make a rectangular “patch,” but you will have to cut it out manually.

How to fix a hole in drywall of 8-10 cm or more

In this case, do not do without installation under the “patch” of a rigid base – a wooden bar (bars) or metal profile, to which it can be attached. If the hole size of 8-10 cm, it will be sufficient to have one wooden bar longer than the size of the hole.

Hole first give the correct rectangular shape, removing the edges of the chamfer. In order that the bar can be held in the right position, it is pre screwed into a self-cut. The bar should be inserted into the hole and holding this self-tapping cut, attach it to the sheet with the other two self-tapping screws, screwing them in from the outside.

When the bar is fixed, the self-tapping screw is unscrewed by holding the bar. By the size of the hole from the piece of drywall is cut “patch”, which is attached to the bar with screws. Self-cutters should be slightly drowned in drywall (1-1,5 mm), but so as not to cut through the upper layer of cardboard. On top of the entire surface to be repaired, joints and fixing places with screws, putty. Places of contacts of an insert and sheet are reinforced with a fabric ribbon. After the putty has dried, it is polished.

Instead of a wooden bar you can use a metal profile.

If the hole in the drywall is even bigger, it will require not one bar or profile, but several.

They can be located in different ways: at the edges, or at the edges and in the middle, as in the photo below. The bars or profiles are attached to the edges of the sheet so that a “patch” can also be attached to them. Later on, as in the previous case, the joints are closed with a fabric ribbon and the whole surface is spattered.

These are simple ways you can use to fix a hole in the drywall with your own hands on the wall or the ceiling.
