Landscape design of a small plot will make your yard much more beautiful and practical!

Improvement of the adjacent territory is often complicated by some peculiarities – a non-standard form or area of the site, the relief, architecture of the house and capital buildings. The problem of extensive lands is the harmonious filling of the entire territory, without frankly “bald” zones. While the landscape design of a small plot, it is, on the contrary, the need to accommodate all the functional objects and decorative elements to create a stylish image.

The task of design of compact plots is also complicated by the fact that the bulk of the land will go under construction. Nevertheless, under certain conditions, it is quite feasible to turn a small plot into a beautiful and comfortable yard.

Planning subtleties. Landscape Design of a Small Plot

On standard six weaving, it is impossible to accommodate a large house, farm buildings and a large garden with alleys.  Mankind has not yet invented ways to expand the subspace, but a carefully thought out landscape design of a small plot visually “pushes” the boundaries. There are several ways to achieve this effect.

Design of the fence – a deaf fence further narrows the boundaries and creates a sense of enclosed space, making a small yard very tight. If it is not possible to replace the deaf edging with a permeable one (mesh, 3D panels, forging, hedge), light shades are used to color the inner side of the fence to counteract this perception. And around the perimeter are planted wicker plants, additionally diversify the landscape design of a small plot using a hanging cowl.

The right paving – only owners of large plots can afford wide straight paths connecting the two points without curves. If you lay one of these in a small courtyard, it will seem even smaller, while narrow, winding “paths” winding between buildings and in the garden, will expand the yard. One of the most popular techniques for designers, it is laying a track with a focus on the fence and the design of the junction with greenery, as going nowhere track “facilitates” the image. All this takes into account and displays the landscape design, which is even more important for small areas than for large areas.

Ponds – perfectly distract attention from the borders of a variety of water bodies, in a small yard is not a full swimming pond, but for a decorative pond, a portable fountain, waterfall or brook, space is enough. It is possible to combine flowing water and smoothing, so that the reflection of the sky adds space to the compact area. You can add air to the area with openworked garden furniture.

Mobile Garden – for a small patio, portable flowerpots and containers along with suspended cowls are a great way to green the area. It is no coincidence that photos of the landscape design of a small plot always display these elements of territory design in various combinations. The entrance group is decorated with pots, massive flowerpots are placed above the gate and along the path, they can be changed from time to time, new ones can be added or those that have filled up the walls can be removed.

Not only ampelle flowering and ornamental deciduous plants are planted in the containers, but also bushes, dwarf trees such as citrus and spicy herbs, combining different shades, shape and flavours. Basil, mint, lemon balm and lemongrass will fit perfectly into the design of a small cottage plot and will always be useful in the kitchen.

Multi-level landscaping – when there is no room for numerous flower gardens and lawns and you need to accommodate the rest area, vertical landscaping helps in several levels. There are several variants.

  • Home-made multilevel flowerbeds – from used tires with a curved edge.
  • Multistorey compositions – made of plastic or wooden containers on the frame.
  • Original shapes – flowers in drawers of cabinet furniture.
  • Facade gardening – containers with flowers on the walls or supports.
  • Rows – garden crops are planted in plastic containers and hanging agro textile “pockets”.

In combination with the lawn, vertical landscaping is a real treasure when the area around the house is exhausted by a dozen or so free squares.

Stylistic design. Landscape Design of a Small Plot

For a small plot, three components are enough to create the perfect garden – a lawn with emerald greenery, a fragrant flower bed, a quiet private corner in the shade for relaxation in a lounge chair, a pergola or garden swing. There should be as little detail as possible in the limited space available, otherwise the yard will seem tight. Some stylistic directions cannot be embodied in a small area, as they require an abundance of free space and decorative objects.

Most often the landscape design of a small plot is made in a free, landscape style, well combined with oriental minimalism and mountaineering. The latter can be combined with a water body by planting plants on the one hand and a waterfall flowing into the ornamental pond on the other. The combination of stone, water and greenery is a win-win situation for almost any project, especially when there is little room for manoeuvre.

A small yard implies the use of low-growth trees in landscaping, and if the slope in Japanese themes, the dwarf varieties. Such a landscape design of a small plot photos show in all its splendor, you can use the example of other projects to determine the basis of their own. Big trees will look too bulky, not to mention the fact that their root will “empty” the ground, and the crown will shade the whole plot and hurt other plants.

Whereas proportionate fruit or ornamental crops will complement the overall picture organically and help to set accents. To get a stylish but not overloaded garden image, you need to follow a number of recommendations.

  • Keep the number of small shapes and decorations to a minimum, giving preference to multifunctional arrangement. When designing a site with a slight gradient, a real pond can be replaced by a dry stream with a bridge, simulating the flow.
  • Avoid variegation – instead of a lot of bright colours, it is enough to use one or two colourful accents, against the background of a neutral main scale.
  • Avoid lush shrubs – replace with varieties with less voluminous vegetation.
  • Avoid large inflorescences – large flowers on flowerbeds are shown for large areas, in compact yards it is more appropriate to look gentle, small buds.

In the far corner, you can place the mixer upward when the tallest plants grow close to the fence, visually enlarging the area. The harmonious landscaping design of a small area in front of the house is based on the principles of reasonable sufficiency, when less is better than more so as not to turn the yard into a heap of elements.
